I was reading “A Mater of metaphor” and I stumbled upon this on Page 37

“Winner quotes Oppenheimer’s reply when the latter was asked to comment on whether his qualms about the hydrogen bomb had increased as it became more feasible to build the bomb.”

“Oppenheimer’s feeling was that development was a good and sweet thing to do. He draws a clean line between development and use. Using the bomb was somebody else’s business, not his. The development of technology is one enterprise, and its use is a separate enterprise that takes place in another world altogether.”

I understand what Oppenheimer means. But I just don’t think that it’s feasible for him to just blow it off the way he does. Why else would you build a bomb? I understand building something for technologies sake but once again, why a bomb? Its not like the development of the bomb was going to help educate children all over the world. Our cars are not going to need gasoline because of the bomb. The bomb was not going to eradicate poverty. The bomb was not going to cure cancer.

A bomb is going to blow something up.

In this case, I really feel in a way that Oppenheimer is responsible for the damage caused by the bomb in some extent. It’s a bomb. Obviously someone is going to use it to blow somebody else up. What did he think was going to happen? Certain outcomes should outweigh other outcomes in terms of the decision making process. We all have to make hard decisions. It’s about being an adult. Should I go to class today? If I didn’t I might miss something important and fail the next test. I better go to class. Should I build a bomb? If I build it, it might fall into the wrong hands. It might be used to hurt someone. To me, its easy, a no brainer some might say.

well i saw Katie’s post and i thought that i would start the wawa/target rant considering i cant sleep.

Wawa- here’s what I learned

  • never go there hungry. you will buy allot.
  • never go under the influence of some kind. you will buy even more.
  • don’t just stop in to use the ATM. I know its free but its a trap. they offer the free ATM because who really just goes in to use the ATM?

Target-Here’s what I learned

  •  never go there with time to kill. you might never come out.
  •  never go under the influence of some kind. you will buy waaaay to many things you don’t even need.
  • never take out a target card. it will just get maxed out on your next visit.

well. where to begin. i guess the interesting blog title for starters? excellent. here is the abridged version…

new module begins. class makes groups. groups make blogs. we were sick. we are our own group. makes perfect sense.

not that anyone was asking about the name, but in case you should happen to, the answer is ready. plus i think it’s an interesting story. and when i have a great story, i love to tell it.

anyway.

chances are i’m going to go from topic to topic a lot. it’s what i do. but since this is an assignment (never in my life did i think i would be blogging for an assignment), i might as well get it out of the way, since due to being sick, i am way behind in just about everything else. even my laundry. ack. sadly, i was almost tempted to buy some new socks simply because i ran out of clean ones. i’ve done it before. don’t lie, you have too.

i got some christmas shopping out of the way today. im pretty proud of myself. i usually wait until about the 23rd  of december, so any time in november is a good start. but mostly it was because target had a sale on exactly what my brother wants (the dvd collection of some show i’ve never heard of). i love target. its actually kind of sad how much i love it. i go there a little too much for my own good, and im sure its the reason why im poor most of the time (that and the excruciatingly painful price of gas these days). so short story long (i know i know its the other way around) i need to cut down my target trips. target and wawa. but i’ll save my wawa tangent for another post.

as i’m writing, i keep thinking of more and more things i want to write about. i’ve always found that writing (or blogging, as i’ve done in the past) is always a good way to let out my thoughts and clear my mind. that being said, i may write in this a little more than required (no promises though). however, i think i’ve spent enough of my time and yours. so i’ll save my other thoughts for another time. enjoy.
